NIHR Participates in the “Mohamed Fayek (6)” Course in Cairo

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) participated in the “Mohamed Fayek (6)” course, organized by the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, over two consecutive days. The course was dedicated to deepening understanding of the roles of national human rights institutions, strengthening their cooperation with stakeholders, and introducing the international human rights system.

The course aimed to familiarize participants with essential information about the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, review relevant treaty-based and non-treaty human rights mechanisms, and explore mechanisms for cooperation with stakeholders. It also introduced the Arab Charter on Human Rights, along with fundamental human rights concepts and terminology. In addition, the course addressed the international human rights system within the context of its historical development, the 1993 Paris Principles concerning the establishment and functioning of national human rights institutions, as well as the origins and evolution of these institutions and their complementary role alongside other human rights mechanisms.

This course was held in implementation of the decisions of the Network’s General Assembly and in alignment with its strategic and operational plans, with the aim of enhancing and building the capacities of member institutions and stakeholders, and strengthening their efficiency in carrying out their mandates in accordance with relevant international standards.
